Common Questions

Q:How often do you have to refill the CO2 tank?

Asked by: Richard H - 2/14/2022
A: This system actually has patented technology that allows for predictable CO2 usage. When sized right, refills are extremely infrequent - as little as once a swim season or even less. The manufacturer site gives pretty detailed information about CO2 use, you can see that here: under "CO2 Tanks & Sizing

Q:What's the minimum pressure required for the system to operate? What typical minimum RPM is needed with variable speed pumps?

Asked by: Alak - 2/14/2022
A: If you’re using a variable speed pump, make sure there is at least 4-5 lbs. of pressure in the filter. The RPM's required vary depending on your pool equipment set up, but 1500 rpm is usually a safe recommendation. This ensures that the system’s pressure sensor gets triggered and that you get energy-efficient water flow.

Q:Where do you get CO2?

Asked by: Jessie Allen - 2/14/2022
A: We carry CO2 tanks, and you can also buy or rent a tank locally. To fill your tank, you have a lot of options ranging from hardware stores, sporting good stores, welding supply stores, restaurant supply stores (CO2 is used in soda fountains), home brew supply stores, paintball supply stores, and more.

Q:1. Is there a particular grade of CO2 that is recommended for use in this system? I have identified a couple potential suppliers and they have medical, food and industrial grades of CO2 available. 2. Are the tank connections standardized so that if I obtain the CO2 locally it will work with the supplied regulator(s)?

Asked by: Mike - 2/14/2022
A: Great questions!
1) No, it's great that you have that many options but the system is so effective that you should get the cheapest option available to you.
2) Yes, with these tank sizes (20lb, 35lb, even 50lb) they use a standardized regulator.

Q:Can this system be wired into my 110V pump timer and can it come configured for that?

Asked by: Bill - 2/14/2022
A: If you wanted to wire it like that you could, but it would be unnecessary for most applications. The system uses a pressure switch that lets it automatically run in sync with your pump, however you have it programmed to run via your timer.

Q:My pump has only 1 drain plug. Does that mean I can not use this system? Thanks, Jack E

Asked by: Jack - 2/14/2022
A: Unfortunately that is correct. Double check though, most pumps have one drain plug in the front, and one plug on the side - both at the very bottom of the unit.

Q:What is the recommendation for operations of this system over the winter months in north Texas. Should the system be maintained and in operation or turned off?

Asked by: Mike Burney - 2/14/2022
A: Like a chlorinator, it is just going to depend on what your pool needs. If you are still circulating the pool and if the water still has acid demand, then by all means keep using it. If you're not sure, measure your pH today, then compare it to a measurement in a couple days to see if you need to adjust the system up or down. For wintertime, be sure to protect your pool equipment from freezing temps just like anything else.

Q:Can the CO2 injector be placed anywhere on the pressure side of the system after the pump? What about the pressure sensor? Note: I would only have one port available on the pump for use with this system.

Asked by: Alak - 2/14/2022
A: I'd recommend speaking with tech support: 888-206-9938x2. The design of this system puts both of those two components in to the pump to ensure complete CO2 absorption, so it would be worth checking on what alternatives there might be.

Q:I have a salt system and I run the pump year round but cover it in the winter months. Will this eliminate all the chemicals I have to add when I open the pool in the spring? With the exception of adding the salt of course. ai have a 20 X 30 pool so how many tanks would I need?

Asked by: Sonya - 2/14/2022
A: This system balances the pH (acidtiy of the water). Between it keeping the pH in check and your salt system keeping the free chlorine in check, that is the lions share of pool chemistry upkeep for most people. And when those things are being maintained consistently, you don't typically need to dump in large amounts of chemicals all at once since things haven't been able to get out of control. As with any pool, you would still want to check for other chemistry levels such as stabilizer, calcium hardness, salinity, etc...
We have more detailed sizing information here, but if your pool was 20,000 gallons, you could consider two 20lb tanks.

Q:I have approx 20,000 gallon pool running with with your salt system. You mentioned on a previous answer that I will still need to check for all chemicals on the pool. Do I still need to add salt and stabilizer with same frequency as before installing the CO2 system?

Asked by: Max - 2/14/2022
A: This system will balance the pH (acidity) of the pool water, which is typically the second most frequently changing chemistry level beside free chlorine. Having the correct pH is critical as it plays a big role in allowing other chemistry levels to do their job right. The water's salinity level and stabilizer level however are not related, and those two levels essentially only change when they get diluted by rain.
