Q: I have a RJ-45 Plus Salt Generator. I don't know what the winter mode button actually does and what it's usefulness is. The owners manual really doesn't describe it's function or why it should or should not be used.

Asked by: Phil Puckett - 1/4/2021
A: It's simply a one-touch button to decrease your system's chlorine output. For example, this would be used if you have a spell of cold weather, a decrease in pool use, you cover the pool, etc... Otherwise, you would make gradual, incremental changes using the +/- output buttons as normal.

Q: What determins when your RJ+45 Series" goes into it's "REST Cycle"?

Asked by: Mike Blee - 9/8/2019
A: The chlorine output (power %) setting. The lower the power output, the less hard the system has to work to generate chlorine. The active / rest cycle is nothing that ever needs monitoring or consideration.

Q: What is the recommended GPM flow for the RJ45 system, Core35, and Core55 systems?

Asked by: blaze - 9/3/2020
A: Salt chlorinators only need a minimum amount of flow in order to ensure that their cell stays filled with water during operation. Everyone's resulting flow rate is different depending on what model pump you have, and more importantly how much "total dynamic head" your setup has to resist flow.

Q: I see the electronics are different, but is the cell physically the same length at the Hayward, making the plumbing upgrade a piece of cake?

Asked by: Paul Rousseau - 2/28/2021
A: Correct, this system's cell can use your existing plumbing fittings. That makes it very quick install.

Q: Just received it, and so psyched to replace my 18 year old Aquarite, it looks great. Can I keep the old flow switch from that system that still works fine, or do I need to swap in the new one. Just looking for simplicity in the install. Thanks,

Asked by: Paul Rousseau - 3/5/2021
A: Basically, yes. You can just plug the old flow switch's "phone jack" connector into the new control module, or actually unscrew the old flow switch from the PVC fitting it's in and screw the new flow switch back into your plumbing.

Q: Recommended set up on rj45 plus on 22000 gallon pool. Variable speed pump. Pump run time and percentage setting. Thanks

Asked by: Tom - 8/29/2020
A: Every pool will have unique requirements based on your pool's chlorine demand and the amount of flow required in order to achieve enough circulation (turn-overs through your pool filter). The best approach is to make adjustments, measure the results, and then make further adjustments to the equipment if needed.

Q: What are the dimensions of the electronics box? Does it have a door that has to be swung open? I am concerned about clearances. I now have a Hayward box.

Asked by: Al - 7/2/2019
A: The controller is approximately 10" high, 6" wide, and 6" deep. The door swings open to the bottom. You may like the EDGE series - it has a very compact controller as well as an adapter kit that lets it easily replace your old salt system.

Q: Does the RJ45 refer to pool size (45,000 Ga's) or does the 45 represent the element output in grams per hour?

Asked by: Nick Honko - 8/11/2020
A: You'll see the specs on the product page indicate: "Capacity:
45000 gal. (max)". Gallon ratings are maximum limits in ideal conditions. You can see more information about sizing here: http://circupooldev-com.3dcartstores.com/How-To-Properly-Size-Your-Salt-Chlorine-Generator_ep_97-1.html

Q: Do you offer extensions/adapters for the rj cell to connect to the power supply box? My power wall is about 6 feet farther than the provided cables length. Can I use a standard adapter to extend this?

Asked by: Scott - 5/7/2021
A: If you are able to do the wiring, you would just want to get more similar diameter cable from the hardware store and either a) connect it to the power cord in a junction box, or b) replace the cable from where it is connected inside the unit with a longer bit of cable. Obviously be sure to follow local codes.

Q: How often do you have to replace the salt cells? I see no mention of longevity

Asked by: Howard - 5/17/2021
A: Ultimately, cell lifespan depends on things like the size of your pool, how well it and your water chemistry has been maintained, how the salt system is used, etc; so it is unique for everyone. On average, it could be 5-8 years though again it could be more or less.

Q: Does it need to be connected to 120v or 240v?

Asked by: Ronald Forney - 6/12/2021
A: It works equally well on either voltage, the manual has instructions to set it up on either voltage. You typically want to put the salt system on the same circuit as the pump so they turn on and off together.

Q: I own this system but it sometimes does not produce enough chlorine for my 240 00 gallon pool, guess to runtime being less than 24 hours. can i upgrade to RJ 60 salt cell without changing controller? will controller recognize larger cell and correctly produce chlorine?

Asked by: Carlos Rita - 12/27/2021
A: Yes, it is "plug-and-play" to upgrade to the larger cell size. First, however, we recommend that you check this troubleshooting guide at the link below. High chlorine demand is a common issue in pools, and this guide will help you 1) verify your system is working normally, and 2) identify & fix common causes that require greater amounts of chlorination.

Q: We have a RJ 45 and a pool with just under 14,000 gal. Once Chem levels are achieved how much salt should need to be added to maintain them. It is an indoor pool.

Asked by: Wayne - 1/19/2022
A: Salt in the pool doesn't get consumed by the salt chlorinator, so after the initial amount that you add, it could be little to none if you have an indoor pool. Only when water gets drained/diluted would more salt need to be added to compensate for the salt that gets taken out with the water.

Q: Can i use rj-45 for a 10000 gallon pool. My neighbor sold his house before he got to instill it on his pool.

Asked by: jim - 2/19/2022
A: Jim, "over-sizing" is usually preferred. The system has an adjustable output, so you'll likely just be able to run to at a low output. This increases the cell's lifespan and allows you to be able to turn it up much higher on demand should the need arise (after storms, heavy use, etc...).

Q: I have a 25000 gal. Gunite pool and live in Maryland. Would you recommend the 40 or 65 model for maximum efficiency. Also can the control panel be mounted outside and is it waterproof

Asked by: russell bowers - 2/25/2022
A: A larger size system basically works less hard daily, which means it lasts longer and also you can "turn it up" on demand if pool problems arise. There is more information about that at the link below. The system is weatherproof and is meant to be installed outside.

Q: What size do I go with? My pool is 18 by 36 inground with a 4 foot shallow end and 9 feet in deep end which is gradual. Why would I choose one system over another?? What are your recommendations? I do not currently have a salt system

Asked by: Lorena A Sienko - 4/21/2022
A: You typically want a system that has 1.5x to 2x the capacity of your pool, so for your roughly 30000 gallon pool, a model in the 45-60 range. The RJ-Series is one of the most popular models, providing great long term value and lots of capability.

Q: 16x32 x 5what size system do I need

Asked by: Tom - 5/9/2022
A: That size rectangular pool would be roughly 19000 gallons. The RJ45+ would be a great choice, if you are in a more northern climate you could likely also use the RJ30+. Q: What are the dimensions of the RJ-45 cell and flow switch? I need to confirm if I have enough piping. Thank you

Asked by: Mike - 7/11/2022
A: If you're installing the cell and flow switch inline together, I would make sure you had about 18-20" available to be safe in order to make sure you have plenty of space to glue to and use in the future. You can see more plumbing dimension info in the User Manual

Q: Can you have to big of a chlorinator?

Asked by: Jason Young - 7/19/2022

Q: I have a timer on my pump. Does the generator need to be on a timer also or is it ok to just let the flow switch shut down the unit when the pump is off?

Asked by: Mike Young - 7/26/2022
A: The standard installation for a salt chlorinator is for it to be on the same timer as the pump, so if you have the timer it would be ideal to hook the salt chlorinator up to it.

Q: I just ordered an RJ-45+. Should I install a check valve after the heater?

Asked by: Mark Oevey - 8/6/2022
A: A check valve is not typically required simply because you are adding a salt chlorine generator. A check valve is often added with a chlorine tablet dispenser, because the chlorine can continue to dissolve and move back to the heater, but the salt chlorine generator does not work like this. The check valve would not necessarily be good or bad.
