Q: Will this work with my existing T-15 cell?

Asked by: Lynn - 8/28/2019
A: The Universal40 is a complete replacement for an older Hayward/Goldline system of any size. It will be a direct fit for you plumbing and uses the same type of electrical, so it should be very easy to switch. If you are asking if you can use the old T-Cell-15 on the new Universal40 controller, it will not work. The Universal40 uses a cell that is much more powerful, and the T15 cell would likely give you incorrect salt readings and cause a warning light to come on.

Q: Can the universal system be used to replace a traditional chlorine pool? What is the difference between this and the RJ system?

Asked by: Dawn Snyder - 4/25/2020
A: Yes absolutely. The RJ provides much longer lifespan and warranty; needing less frequent of your cell helps make it a better return on your investment. It also has more modern electronics and controls, and cell that is clear which means you can see it working and can check inside without having to fully disassemble it.

Q: I currenty have a aquapure 1400 that I am really dissatisfied with. I just changed the cell and it is still sporadic with error messages. I can’t believe I just bought a cell for $700.00 and nothing! Is this system a direct bolt on? I don’t want to continue throwing money at this problem. The pool size is 18,000 gallons and I live in Miami, Fl. Which is hot!

Asked by: JT - 8/27/2020
A: The Universal40 is not a direct fit for the Jandy Aquapure, so you would want to simply cut out the existing cell and glue the new cell in place. If your pump is on timer, this should wire up the same way. For your size pool and climate, it should likely be a good fit and provide plenty of capacity.

Q: I have an auto clear system will this this work to replace that system. Thanks Scott

Asked by: Scott - 4/9/2021
A: It's a more powerful system so it would likely work well, but it is not a direct match for your existing plumbing unions. The Polaris Autoclear has a unique cell length and threads, so you would need to simply replumb.

Q: Does this product eliminate the need for chlorine By generating it’s own salt ?

Asked by: Kenneth chittum - 4/11/2021
A: CircuPool salt systems eliminate the need to buy, store, and add traditional chemical chlorine by working automatically with your pump every day to generate a pure form of free chlorine directly in the water by converting the low level of salt in the water.

Q: Is the cell a direct replacement for the Pentair IC20? And, is the flowmeter integral it the cell?

Asked by: SRBeckham - 4/14/2021
A: This system has an independent flow switch, so you would need to do some plumbing. If you want to upgrade to a new salt system and avoid replumbing, check out the SJ or EDGE series with their available SJ Adapter Kit / EDGE Adapter Kit that would let you utilize your current plumbing.

Q: I currently have a Jandy AquaPure PLC1400 that went bad. Can this replace that without professional? Thanks much. Duane

Asked by: Duane Priddy - 4/19/2021
A: This model does not have any restriction over who installs it in order to get the stated warranty. There is no system that can replace the AquaPure without having to replumb since that system has a unique cell length and threads, if that is what you are asking.

Q: Would this be a easy change out from a nano auto pilot system?

Asked by: john thayer - 4/20/2021
A: If you can cut and glue PVC pipe and connect the power wires, it should be relatively easy in my opinion. If you have a Nano model with a manifold, you can see that you would want to remove that, and then plumb the new cell to span that gap.

Q: I’m thinking about changing over to a SWJ system, mainly due to issues with chlorine this year. Looking at a UL40 1) at 120v, how many amps does it pull? 2) does the plug in model need to be on a timer with the pump? Or is it smart enough to not work when there is no flow 3) what are dimensions of the control box?

Asked by: Scott - 6/2/2021
A: It's about 2 amps as it is designed to be on the same circuit as the pump so they get turned on and off together. It does have a flow switch, but that wiring is ideal. The controller is about 12 x 9 x 5.

Asked by: Larry Prager - 6/25/2021

Q: Hi, I have a pool of 22.000 gallons with a pump pentair of 2 HP SF-N1-2A (85 GPM Aprox). If I Installed a Universal 40 how many hours a day I must turn on the system ?. I live in Colombia and the temperature of the water is about 84 F. When you talk about 2.0 lb, how many working hours it means ? Regards, Diego.

Asked by: DIEGO BERNAL - 6/28/2021
A: Every pool requires a different amount of sanitation, so the exact run time or chlorine output setting that your pool may need will be unique. The average pool with a single-speed pump often gets 8-12 hours of run time, which is usually sufficient for a properly sized salt chlorinator. If you have warm water, lots of sun, heavy pool use, etc... you may want a even higher capacity system. Q: When do you know it's time to replace an old system? I have a CircuPool Si Series , 8 yrs old this past March, (salt). Can it be replaced with this one?

Asked by: JD - 4/30/2022
A: JD, you can be confident that your old cell is consumed when you have 1) thoroughly cleaned the cell according to the instructions in the manual, multiple times in a row until no more fizzing occurs in the cell when fresh cleaning solution is added, 2) flushed the cell very well to make sure no debris is inside, 3) independently measure your pool salinity and made sure it is close to 3500ppm. If you get a "check cell" light after 5-10 minutes of operation and all other things are correct, it is likely an old used up cell. The Universal series is a direct replacement for your Si-series. Q: Is it really better to oversize? Looking at the Universal40 for a 20K size pool. Will the 25K be just as efficient? Does the electronic box have a timer or do I need to tie it into my pool timer? Runs 12 hours per day. Using 220v pump. Thank you.

Asked by: William Nordman - 5/6/2022
A:

A smaller model will definitely not be more efficient. It will have to run at higher output levels / longer run times in order to provide the amount of chlorination your pool needs in comparison to a larger model. You can find more details about this here: https://www.circupool.com/5-Reasons-why-you-should-over-size-your-salt-system_ep_94-1.html

The standard way to wire salt chlorinator is to put it on the same circuit as your pump so they turn on and off together. There are more instructions about this in the manual, which can be found on the product page.

Q: Where do you install the cartridge-looking device... On the intake line or the outflow (back to the pool) line?

Asked by: Anthony - 5/7/2022
A: That is the "cell", which is the component that generates the chlorine. This goes after the pump, filter, and heater if you have one; so the water leaves the cell and goes right back into the pool.
